Do you like ads?

February 29, 2008 at 8:21 pm | In Posts | 5 Comments

We receive more than 5,000 advertising messages per day. Some are really good. They make us express our emotions: smile or laugh, feel sympathy etc. Some even irritates us. And that is good for companies. They reach us, their audience! But there’s another category “we don’t remember”. And it is a real fail!

I usually don’t connect ads to the product! I just watch or look at them! Like a piece of art. For me advertising is an art. Arguably? Maybe. But it’s definitely part of our new culture.

And I have some in my list of favourites. Like movies or books. Don’t you?

  1. I like smart ads. My favorite, probably, is one made for AEG with ducklings and Chaikovskii’s music. It is very sweetheart. =)

  2. Maybe it’s my age; maybe it’s my background… but I can’t say I like any ads.

The best I can say is that I like the fact that advertising helps fund publications, websites, sporting and cultural events. With no ads, the prices would have to rise.

The next thing to say is that we’re seeing a blurring of what an ad is thanks to sites like YouTube. I can see that some ads succeed because of their entertainment value (and production values).

  3. I think the role of adverts, particularly on TV have changed in recent years. They have had to! As the dotcom crash of the late 90’s showed us television advertising, shouting at us to buy a product, doesn’t work on mass. Instead now I think TV advertising campaigns are as much about competitive spending and bragging as selling things. Companies need to be seen to be saying something in the public to keep there name in the public’s mind. Why else would children’s food brands be shown at midnight when their target market should be in bed?!

  4. I just love the Gorilla playing drums and the Phill Collins (love him!) on the background. What was the thing they were advertising again???
Yeah I agree with you a love to see some ads, some amusing, some irritating, some brilliant some other just dull. Who does not like the big Skoda cake???? I will not make me buy any Skoda but it’s great! I have not spent a penny to produce it anyway. No talking about the effectiveness of ads is another ball game altogether.

  5. Ads becomes like short films nowadays. Is it good ? No. Because audience get bored of it, plus the cost of those ads are really high so seconds are really important. I think companies are throwing their moneys…

I couldn’t say that I like many of the ads because the aim is to take attention with sounds and musics but in this crowdedness brand starts to dissappear in the ad.
