Say Cheeese!
May 11, 2008 at 10:19 pm | In Posts | 7 CommentsNow we store and share photos via Internet. Our computers are full of photos but our photo albums are empty.
Can you remember when you last time printed photos?
I stopped probably because of cost and it is a time-consuming process. Nowadays if you need to stand up, go to the shop, give the film and come back later to take it back is VEEERY time-consuming.
But my mum still does, she prints photos and put them in the album. And I really like it. It is the same as books, you flick through the album and feel a history, feel emotions, not just see them on the computer screen.
What is photography? This term came from two Greek words – photo and grapho. Photo means “light”; grapho is similar to the verb “to write”. So photography means an art to catch a moment and fix it on a paper with use of light. I like the phrase “catch a moment”. I think it is the most important thing in the whole process. This is the art! This is where you can show your talent!
But! Art of photography has also changed its meaning. We evaluate beauty of picture, not a moment or sense of photo. Different software turned photos into just beautiful pictures. Most of the pictures are edited in Photoshop. Ease of use made it accessible for majority of us. But for real photo-artists format of photo doesn’t make any difference.
Usually we can meet photo works in glossy magazines. It is a PR for celebrities and photographers, like symbiosis for both of them. But benefits from this symbiosis are higher for celebs. If you ask reader about photographers that are published in magazine, he can hardly remember one of them. Well, actually I don’t…

Yeah, sometimes I feel nostalgie. Photo albums were shared with friends and relatives during some parties. In one album it was possible to trace the whole life of person. I really miss them, but, probably, I’m lazy to print and put photos in album =)
And one more thing about film photography is that all photos in private albums were not edited. And you could feel the moment.
In order not to be pessimistic I can add that many people store photos unedited even in elecronic format. I like it (even unsuccessful photos)! =)

I bet you don’t edit them (I don’t). The reason is always the same – too lazy
))
But I don’t want most memorable moments of my life (maybe wedding) to be on the screen.
I’ll definitely print them!

The reason for leaving photos as they are is not laziness. For me, the reason is that I appreciate moment of taking photos, not myself or friends on it (but sometimes I do) =)
The best photos, that are made, are sudden photos. When you don’t expect to be caught =)

I agree that sudden photos can be great but one in a million! Others are just TERRIBLE!

They are terrible in terms of beauty, but they are valuable in terms of expressed feelings!

Both printing of pictures and putting them in the screen is good, you can not carry your photo albums with you all the time, like when i was leaving home i did not take any photogragh with me ,but i have some in me laptop, and it is easier for me sent my recent Photograghs home, but i will still print them later.
